BRUNSWICK ROTARY SPONSORS LOCAL HOOPS TOURNEY

The Rotary Club of Brunswick, via the fine work of George Gilmore and the Funds Allocation Committee, was a primary sponsor (one of eight) of the recently completed Midwinter Classic Junior High School Basketball Tournament hosted by the Brunswick Recreation Department.

The tournament pitted 32 boys and girls teams from 14 towns throughout the midcoast area and Portland in a round robin event. Our sponsorship went to support T-shirts given to all participants (and purchased by non participants), first through fourth place individual and team trophies, fees for referees, prorated gym utilities, and other costs related to the four day event.

Rotary is proud to be asociated with an event that displayed the professionalism of the Brunswick Rec staff, the coaches, and the outstanding sportsmanship displayed by all the players. The event indeed was a most worthy event to be supported by allocations from our youth program budget.

MORE TREES FOR THE BIKE PATH

The final three Autumn Blaze maple trees to complete the line of twelve maple trees on the eastern end of the bike path have been ordered. This is the culmination of a five year effort to complete the line of trees. These trees were approved under Dave Millar's presidency. Peter Baecher, town arborist for  Brunswick, indicates the the new trees have 2.5 inch trucks at are the same variety of maple as the other trees in the row and that all look very healthy.

FUN AND GAMES ON THE MALL

Once again the Rotary Club of Brunswick and the Town of Brunswick sponsored the annual July 4th Fun and Games on the Mall. After a June riddled with rain, kids and grown ups alike were raring to go on nthe 4th, though not until after overnight rain dampened the pitch but not spirits!!

Paul Harris Fellows

Apropos of District Governor Marie Williams message from the top at the October 17, 2006 Meeting, let us not forget our commitment to the Rotary Foundation as the year winds down. Make that donation that keeps on giving by scratching our a check to the RF. Or better yet, join the 146 other Paul Harris Fellows from the Brunswick Club by making a $1000 contribution or joining a Group of Five and making a $200 contribution each year for five years. Contact Doc Phillips to pursue any and all options.
